Following the passing of Kenya’s President Jomo Kenyatta, US President Jimmy Carter tasked Philip Schaefer (future founder of World Pension Forum) to join the delegation of some of the United States most eminent civil rights leaders including Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, Coretta Scott King (Wife of MLK), Ambassador to the United Nations Andrew Young and leaders from the NAACP and White House. This experience laid the ground work for Phillip to start the World Pension Forum a decade later.
